The wait is over. It is May 1st and tomorrow is supposed to be 70 degrees out. Woot woot! If you haven’t already picked up on my subtleties, I LOVE warm weather. I think I am more anxious this year than ever for that sunshine to stay with us, probably because this was a long, cold, tough winter.
As the sun begins to shine, my focus starts to stray more and more to some things I am really looking forward to. If you read my post yesterday, you know one major event I just can’t wait for is the official tying of the knot of my two great friends, Cait and Luke.
But there are lots more things to look forward to! Here are a couple!
Our Fire Pit
Billy and I recently teamed up and built a fire pit in our backyard. The people who owned our home previously had one, but it needed some love and attention (or a complete demolition), so we took it apart and replaced it with our own stones. (and by we, I mean Billy).
I am SO looking forward to spring and summer nights, sitting out by the fire, perhaps toasting up some s’mores and enjoying our backyard.
Yard Sales
This is one of those things that I dream of when I go to bed at night. (Really, though). As a new homeowner, I am constantly looking for the right pieces for our home and most of the time, when I do find them online or in stores, they’re SO expensive. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll splurge here and there if I really love something, but a good bargain is where it is all at for me. We moved into our home in November last year, tragically right as yard sale season was ending, so I’ve been waiting allllllll winter for this time to begin! I’ll let you know what I find.
A Vegetable Garden
Growing up, my Dad had a vegetable garden that could have supplied an entire grocery store’s produce section, literally. And now my father-in-law has his own mini-farm growing in his backyard. I want to join in on the fun and start our own veggie garden, on a much smaller scale. I’m new to this whole gardening thing, so I’ll be pleased if I can keep three plants alive. I’m thinking asparagus, eggplant and tomatoes? Fingers crossed.
Farmers Markets
And to continue on with the veggie/outdoors theme, I am making it a goal to venture out on Saturday mornings (when I’m not at a yard sale) to hit the local farmers markets. I find them to be so much fun when I do actually go. You get to enjoy a mini festival while also supporting local businesses. What could be better?
Beach Days
I think this one is a given and pretty obvious, but it is on my list. I’m counting down the days until I can throw on a bathing suit and plop myself on a beach chair with some tanning oil and a good book. Enough said?
Sandbar Sundays (or any other day of the week..)
One of my favorite things about growing up in Kingston is my Rocky Nook friends. They live on the water and lots of them have boats, and fortunately, they let us outsiders reap the benefits of their location from time to time, which is just lovely for me. We often will fill up two boat loads of people, food and booze and head out to one of the nearby sandbars for the day. It is always so much fun, and I feel lucky that they let my hubby and me tag along.
That's all for today, folks. Happy Sunny Days!
