The House that Built Me

Happy almost-Friday friends!  Phew, I am so looking forward to this weekend and continuing my efforts to meet these personal challenges that I’ve announced to the ever-so-large blogosphere.

Spring is upon us (or actually already began according to the calendar- but not to the snow on the ground) and the warm weather that is hopefully in the near future has me thinking about our new home and our plans to make our yard beautiful.

You see, I grew up with two hardworking, perfectionist type parents that kept both the inside and outside of our home clean, cozy and always stunning from the “curb appeal” standpoint. My parents bought our home in 1977 as a one-floor bungalow (real-estate term often used to describe a home with one floor and a front-porch) and added a second-floor, pool, fish pond and three children to the mix to create what I now remember to be an amazing place to grow up.

Here are a couple pictures of the evolution of my parents’ house and yard. I am still trying to find a current picture of the house, but you can see what they started with.

So now here we are, in our mid(ish) twenties with a home of our own and a lot to live up to. My husband and I constantly talk about our plans to re-do our patio, add a vegetable garden, build a fire pit and make our farmers porch the place to be on Sunday mornings. Lots of opportunities for coloring, right?!

Here are a couple pictures of our house that we took when we purchased it in October. I can’t wait to post updates soon (if the snow actually does melt this year.. ) and share our work with you.

We’ve got a lot to learn and work to do, but hopefully a lifetime to do so.

Wishing you lots of coloring as this new season begins!
