Curb Appeal: Welcome to our Home

Us Glynns are going on about 10 months of living in our home and I embarrassingly admit to you blogosphere folk that we had been without a front step for the entire time. Well, I guess that sounds a little dramatic, huh? But yes, the former residents of our home sadly forgot to add a front step during their renovations.  And moreover, it took us 10 long months to add one.

During these 10 months, we’ve had some type of strange, ugly foot stool filling in. And luckily (or maybe not), only two people have fallen on the way out of our house.  Whoops.

The good news is that Billy and my Dad built our new front step last weekend.  We spent our Sunday heading up to Lowes to gather the materials and then surprisingly, it only took an hour or so to build the step. 10 months, 1 hour. Seriously?

Bill also made out like a bandit on our trip, as we bought him a miter saw and drill of his very own. Up until now, we’ve been borrowing stuff like this from our uncles and dads. It was time to put on our grown up pants and get our very own set. Bill was pumped, but I think I might be more excited, because now he can cut wood for me any time I need it. (sorry Bill.)

To top of the project, we also painted our front door, as it needed a little TLC. The color is Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue. What do you think? Next up is sealing the deck/steps to protect the wood from water/time damage.

Happy Tuesday!

Love Always,
A

  1. This looks great Amelia! It's funny how some projects really don't take too long and make such a difference, yet we push them off as long as possible. I do this far too often! Love that door color too!

  4. It's just impressive what a paint job can do. It's so much better than before! And I'm glad that the deck steps are settled now. Hopefully, no one will fall on their way out anymore. If you're planning to renovate, there are so many ideas that you can get from the internet. Your house has a lot of possibilities, and we your readers can't wait to see them come together. Good luck!

  5. I agree with Calvin. Painting works wonders in a house's curb appeal. You've got a great choice of colors, Amelia! I'm sure your neighbors spend a fraction of their time just to look at your new front door! Hehe! Well, I do hope I can find the same splendid thing in my new house. Thanks for the post! :)

  6. Painting can, indeed, create fabulous changes to your house's curb appeal. However, you need to properly choose the hues that you'll use to make it look presentable. Using the appropriate colors for your house can make it more homey and dictate the mood of your house. Months have already passed, I'm wondering if you repainted other rooms on your new house. Any updates? :)
