Feng Shui on a Budget

If I could have a second middle name, it would be feng shui. Amelia Carolyne Feng Shui Glynn. Can you imagine? Ha anyways, my point being, I love bringing a new look and feel to room. Better yet, I love doing this even more without breaking the bank.

What are my strategies? Well for one, I’m a little cheap when it comes to buying items for our home. I don’t mean to say I won’t splurge when necessary, but this gal is a bargain hunter all the way through.

Keeping a home feeling fresh and inviting, while trying to keep your wallet safe, are pretty big challenges that us home decorators face. What is a girl to do?

Well, here are my tips:

Number 1:

Yup, I just said that. The opportunities are endless at TJ Max’s Home Goods and Marshalls. I don’t think I’d be exaggerating when I say that 90% of the decorative pieces we have in our home were found at one of these two stores.  Pillows, rugs, blankets, trinkets galore!

Number 2:

I have lived up to my promise to hit as many yard sales as possible this summer, and it has really paid off. My wallet, husband and home are all happy, as each are equally reaping the benefits of buying items like coffee tables for $10 or picture frames for free!

Check out the below photo of our new Feng Shui-ed Room. Okay, okay. The couch was a spurge item (although it was one sale!). But the rest are products of Marshalls, Home Goods and some very random neighbors who live nearby.

Number 3:

A lot of people think that Feng Shui-ing a home is all about buying new goodies. Not true. To start, let’s recall the actual definition of the term.

So you see, there is nothing about “new” stuff in the definition. The overall goal is to bring a peaceful balance to a room by arranging or rearranging items, which is just perfect for all you money-savers out there.

So my next tip is pretty simple. Move things around. Yup, every once and a while, take some pictures on a wall, or some books on a shelf and just rearrange them. Even if it looked good before, the energy in the room will feel good when you just move some items around. I do this all the time and it really does just feel good to walk into a room that looks slightly different.

Number 4:

I would say the absolute best way to feng shui on a budget is cleaning. Nothing makes a home feel cozier and more inviting than shiny floors, dusted table tops and a fresh scent. So when you don’t have the cash to splurge or the time to move stuff around, pick up the broom and plug in the vacuum. You'll instantly feel like your home has a better energy and you'll feel good as a result.

That's all folks. Feng Shui Away!

Love Always,
A

  1. feng shui Our wind chimes please the eye and delight the ear, keeping you in touch with the subtle variations in your surroundings and marking the changes that take place throughout the day. For some of us these sounds are company, to others they act as calming, meditational notes.
