DIY Army: Wedding Program Fans

I just love writing posts about our big day, as it brings me right back to all of those happy memories. However, one aspect of the wedding planning process that I candidly admit to you I didn’t love:  DIY projects. Let me be clear, I actually do consider myself to be an okay DIYer (if DIYer can be a verb for now?), but for whatever reason, in the weeks leading up to the wedding, all of the projects that needed to be completed felt SO overwhelming. It is probably because I have a tinch of a perfectionist deep down inside of me, and when I have a vision in my head, god help the finished product if it doesn’t live up to that vision.

Thank goodness for my Mom, sister and best friends. They were like my little army of DIYers. They would come over a couple nights a week as the wedding grew closer and help me knock out some projects.  I am SO thankful to them for all of their time, support and for talking me off a ledge every time I got a wee bit stressed.

One major project that my army assisted with was our ceremony programs. I had been to a couple weddings that offered the programs in the form of a fan, which I just loved because I was convinced it was going to be bright, sunny and hot on our big day. (Boy was I wrong).

The fans are actually pretty simple to make (I would suggest forming an army like I did). Here are the steps:
  1. I downloaded the template from www.ayleebits.com. Here is the template.
  2. Once downloaded, design your program within the template and then print them to a card stock. Be sure to do a print preview and that your print settings are landscape. Also, print one first to make sure the coloring matches your vision.
  3. Next it is time to do pull out the scissors. Cut around the border of the fan. You can either not cut the middle and just fold the fan in half, or cut down the middle and then glue the two pieces together. We cut down the middle because we were trying to make a wavy edge.
  4. Glue a popsicle stick in between the two sides and then glue the two sides together.
  5. Add a bow for a finishing touch.
My design before printing:

Voila! Thanks again to my army of DIYers for your assistance on these! And although it rained on our big day, I hope at least one person in the room cooled off with these gems after cutting up the boards on our dance floor. Cheers!

  1. This DIY is absolutely fantastic. I followed this when making wedding programs wording and it was great. I mean it's not too good compared with the others but I made a pretty decent wedding program. Just need to revamp the design a little and its perfect.
