Picking Up the Crayon

To write a blog or not write a blog? That is the question.

So here I am, eager and ready, (along with scared and intimidated..) to join the blogosphere. I have to say that I’ve been contemplating starting a blog for a while, but hesitated due to nerves and weariness that my life just might not be interesting enough to fill the pages of this virtual journal – along with the fact that I could never come up with a title that I felt worked…

It is pretty challenging to “name” something and commit to that name when you’re not even sure what the heck it is yet, right?

Which leads me to my next thought, which is, perhaps I need a plan? I like to consider myself a “planner” – someone who lays down an agenda for just about everything – my schedule for the week all the way down to the order in which I get ready for work in the morning. Planning is my thing – even if I don’t always stick to my plan – starting off with one always makes me feel organized and ahead of the game.

So what is my grand plan for this blog?

To create a unique, fun and casual outlet to record my thoughts, ideas and goals, while hopefully forcing myself to wander a bit outside of my comfort zone to try new things and discover new places. In short, to bring some different shades of color to my life.

What will that entail? I don’t know yet! But I said I needed a plan, right?

Those who are close to me know that I’m a homebody, eat-the-same-foods, addicted-to-my-family, security-blanket, type girl. Bravery has never been my strongest characteristic.

So I think in order to stick to my plan for this blog, I need to try (emphasis on try) to commit to a couple things;
  • Traveling to places I’ve never been before (even if it does not take a plane ride to get there)
  • Cooking and eating new, exotic foods.
  • Creating things. I have never been good with a paint brush, crayon or glitter. Art was always my least favorite class to attend. I liked English. Can this blog be what I “create”? To be determined.
  • Home-improvement projects. Did I mention I just bought a house? More to come on that…
  • Exercise challenges. I actually like to exercise and do regularly, but to be more specific, I should call this bullet “Running” challenges. I want to become a runner. Let’s see if this blog can force me to commit.
  • Interior Design – I used to say that I either wanted to be a teacher or an Interior Designer. I have always LOVED home décor. My Mom would tell you that I would move my bedroom furniture around on a weekly basis when I was a kid. I guess six year-olds can feng shui too, right?
  • Smelling the roses. I guess this one is a little broad, eh? It is more or less a personal goal for myself to try to slow down and "smell the roses" as they put it. To think less and hear, see and smell more.
  • Taking pictures. A new hobby?
  • Reading and writing.  Two old hobbies coming back to life.

So there it is, out there on the world.wide.web. for all (or my handful of friends) to read; a goal to “color” life with the above and record my experiences as I do so.

Thanks for tuning in as I overcame my first challenge. Creating something (see bullet #3 above). My first blog post.

Wishing lots of “coloring” to you and yours.
