I have to say that I usually suffer from the very popular disorder called “I Hate Mondays” when my alarm goes off every Monday and I realize that I can only hit the snooze button two more times before I officially start my week off on the wrong foot. However, today I am feeling refreshed and ready for this new week after having a great weekend full of an equal amount of rest and productivity.
Is there anything better than a weekend approaching and you realize you don’t have anything scheduled? For me, the answer is no. Don’t get me wrong – I love weekends filled with errands and social engagements, but having a full 48 hours of freedom to do whatever the heck I want is not too shabby either.
So how did I fill my time? I cooked a new, healthy recipe (post to come), did a home décor project (another post to come), exercised, got caught up on an amazing show (Homeland if you are wondering)(FYI, the show is so good I might just have to write a post about that too) but mostly, I tried to enjoy the little things like spending time with my family.
You see, one of my favorite past times from childhood is the Sunday morning traditions we had. The traditions changed depending on what phase of life myself and my siblings were in, but when we were little we’d often wake up to one of my parents cooking chocolate chip pancakes and then we’d hop in my Dad’s truck and sing “Heigh-ho the derry-o, we’re going to the dump.” I know, I’ve now made my family sound crazy, but I think I can speak for my siblings when I say those were some of the best times we had together. The three of us used to look forward to helping my Dad go to the Kingston dump, just so we could sing that song with him – it’s the little things in life, huh?
Now as a grown-up, I often think about those traditions and making new ones with my little family. I got up yesterday morning before Billy and cooked up some scrambled eggs and turkey bacon to try to wake him up to those smells and noises that I loved waking up to as a child – home cooked breakfast and family chatter (I wasn’t talking to myself, but my dog instead. Judge away.)
My point to this blog being that the family time and those itty-bitty moments are definitely why I am feeling so refreshed and ready to kick this work week’s butt and I hope you’re feeling the same way!
So cheers to a new week filled with colors and enjoying those little things!
| My sister gave me this sign for Christmas. Definitely fitting for this post. :) |
