As previously discussed in my very first blog post, I’ve made it a goal to ramp up my running game. Running is actually something I very much enjoy – it is just something I’ve never been able to commit to. It is one of those activities that you can very easily make excuses for, like the fact that I live in New England and there is snow on the ground for four months out of the year, or the fact that I don’t own a treadmill and the gym is just too far away (probably 10 minutes to be exact, far huh?).
One of my biggest inspirations to run is everyone around me. My husband, brother, best friends and co-workers are all avid runners doing half and full marathons all the time, and here I am, doing a cute, little 5K here and there. Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of those 5Ks because there was a time when I couldn’t run 50 feet without feeling like I might collapse. That is the amazing thing about running – you think that a distance sounds so far, until you’ve run it. Then you look back and laugh at how intimidating the distance sounded.
So here I am, with the summer months upon us, trying to come up with a plan to hit those sneakers of mine to the pavement. I’ve been chatting a lot with Billy about trying to pick a 10K scheduled for the late spring to run together. My thought is that signing up for the race is a step in the right direction. Having something booked will force us to get out there (I think?).
We actually did go for our first run (together – Billy runs all the time) last week and it was awesome. There is nothing like spring nights when the sun is still out at 7 PM and you don’t actually see your breath. I stopped (only for a second!) while we were running to take a picture because the scenery was just too beautiful not to capture. Check it out below. Gorgeous, huh?
Hopefully I can share some progress updates with you all soon! Here's to running.
WOW! That is gorgeous - what a pretty run! Great post :)
